Short Description
Friendly URL's For Invision Board 2.0.x only!

Detailed Description

This mod will make the URLs on your forum look nicer to users of your forum and it will allow search engines to index your site a lot more than with the standard URLs. It will replace nearly every URL on your forum with a much nicer URL...

Example URLs

Topic URLS
topic-title-t1.html

Forum URLS
forum-name-f1.html

UserCP
Inbox.html
Compose-new-message.html

Search Engines don’t like query strings that PHP uses so it won’t index the pages on your forums. This mod changes this by tricking the search engines into thinking that they are actually viewing a static html page.

Unfortunately this will only work on Apache Server (as far as I know) because it requires the apache module mod_rewrite to be installed on your web server. Apache web server is available free for many platforms including Windows and Linux. Mod_rewrite is also installed by most paid apache hosts I’ve used over the years as well and if it isn’t you could ask them to install it.

Installation instructions are in the zip file

Thank you for an awesome MOD be running it for a while now. I have recently run into problems though....

when someone visits the base directory without the trailing slash ie:

balhblkahbla/invision it opens a pop up window prompting the user to save the file instead of showng the webpage.

any ideas ?

hey ppl,

nice to be a part of this forum..

I have a little comment about this modification. First of all it does a great job, but it slowed my forum. Page generation time is now increased for 200%
I have around 100,000 page generations a day, so these new stats are not very welcome for my server. I'm interested in different coding approach. This mod uses preg_replace to replace all occurences in already build html output, which drains CPU. do you happen to know if there is an furl mod which will do the job step by step, in another words when needed. its important to have another solution instead of parsing huge html output buffer.
I'm not sure what did I just wrote (I blame coffee), so if anyone has something to say go ahead smile2.gif

im having trouble getting the modification to work on my site http://codeshq.net
Just so you know, I'm hosted at 1&1.com and it appears that they like to keep the mysql databases on a different server than the ones they use to keep the site itself on.... How should I edit the files for my forum being in the root directory?

what happened the last time I installed the mod was: the urls were modified just fine, however, when I clicked on one of the modified urls, I recieved a 404 error page.

Would you say this or Prof P is the best to use for a IPB 2.2.1?

That line of text to track the mod has been removed a very long time ago. smile2.gif

more than half of those links has been dropped by google now. only 67,700 are counted.

Won't FURL actually hurt a site's rankings since it adds duplicate content using different URLs?? When you view the topics as guest, some of the links are still in .php form. Google penalizes for duplicate content. rolleyes.gif this is a serious issue, duplicate content affects your page rankings!! maybe this mod should be outlawed... sad.gif

BTW, http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22SEO+Po...tart=0&sa=N only returns 149,000 results. It was at 52,300 on August 1, 2005..that's over 1 year ago. So, this mod is not as useful now or what? There should be much more than 149k results in more than one year...

I upgraded to 3.0 version of this mod and I think it has fixed the speed problems. Everything seems to work EXCEPT it is not working for topics or the blogs. Does this work for anyone on the topics?
